FAQs (Frequently Asked Questions)

What are Essential Oils?

Essential oils are highly concentrated plant extracts that capture the natural aromas and beneficial properties of various plants. They are typically obtained through a process called distillation, which involves steam or water extraction of the aromatic compounds present in plant materials such as leaves, flowers, bark, stems, or roots.

Essential oils are composed of numerous chemical constituents that contribute to their unique aroma and potential therapeutic effects. The combination of these compounds determines the specific scent and potential benefits associated with each essential oil.

Essential oils can be inhaled, applied topically, or sometimes ingested, although ingestion should be done under the guidance of a qualified professional. Not all essential oils are safe for internal use.

It's important to note that essential oils are highly concentrated and potent substances, and they should be used with caution. Some essential oils may cause skin irritation or sensitization, and certain oils may not be suitable for use during pregnancy or for individuals with specific health conditions. When in doubt, consult with me!

What is Clinical Aromatherapy?

Simply put, it is the use of essential oils for therapeutic outcomes.

What can I expect during an Aromatherapy Consultation?

I offer a holistic 60-minute initial consultation (in-person) or a 30-minute emotion-only consultation (in-person). I can do both of these appointments online as well, and then they take a bit less time and cost a bit less too. Once you schedule an initial consultation, I will send an intake form to you, via secure email, or share it with you via secure file sharing. The whole (body-mind-spirit) health form is very thorough so that I understand your health history and am aware of any medications that you may be taking. After you complete the form and return it to me, I will make personalized Aromatherapy protocol suggestions to support your concerns, for us to thoroughly review at your appointment. If we conduct our session online, we use a HIPAA-compliant video platform.

I also offer a consultation where you can share with me the essential oils that you already have and we can discuss all the different ways to use them that you may not be aware of, and come up with some new and simple ways to incorporate them into your daily routines and into your self-care.

I am currently working toward Bach Flower Essence certification. Prior to this consultation, I will send you a questionnaire to complete, to evaluate your emotional status. We will review it together and then I will guide you in choosing a few flower essences to support your mental and emotional states. You will make your own custom remedy in a Bach mixing bottle, to take home.

I also offer an aromatic foot soak. I use castile soap as the carrier oil for the essential oil(s) we choose for you. We can use therapeutic oils or simply choose some favorites. We can add dried flowers and/or herbs too! After your soak you will receive a complimentary AromaTouch foot massage.

What are each of the add-on holistic therapies for and how do they work?

Gemstone Chakra Mat

The gemstone chakra mat is a type of therapeutic mat that combines gemstones with the concept of chakra balancing. It helps align and balance the body's energy centers, known as chakras, by using the energetic properties of different gemstones.

The gemstone chakra mat consists of seven sections (one for each of the chakras), each containing a different type of gemstone, or crystal. The gemstones chosen for each section are associated with the chakras, based on their color and energetic properties.

Here are the gemstones and their corresponding chakras:

Root Chakra (Red): Red Jasper for the root chakra, which relates to stability, grounding, and physical vitality.

Sacral Chakra (Orange): Carnelian for the sacral chakra, which relates to creativity, sensuality, and emotional well-being.

Solar Plexus Chakra (Yellow): Yellow Aventurine for the solar plexus chakra, which relates to personal power, confidence, and self-esteem.

Heart Chakra (Green or Pink): Green Aventurine for the heart chakra, which relates to love, compassion, and emotional healing.

Throat Chakra (Blue): Blue Lace Agate for the throat chakra, which relates to communication, self-expression, and creativity.

Third Eye Chakra (Indigo): Sodalite for the third eye chakra, which relates to intuition, insight, and spiritual awareness.

Crown Chakra (Violet or White): Amethyst for the crown chakra, which relates to spiritual connection, higher consciousness, and enlightenment.

You will lie down or sit on the mat, allowing the gemstones to come into contact with the body or be in close proximity to the 7 chakra energy centers. The belief is that the energy and vibrations of the gemstones interact with the body's energy field, helping to restore balance and harmony to the chakras.

Plus, the mat has a PEMF (pulsed electromagnetic frequency) system, which simulates the Earth’s magnetic field, and is most consistent with the biorhythms of the human body. So relaxing!

Cold Laser

Cold laser therapy, also known as low-level laser therapy (LLLT), is a non-invasive medical treatment that uses low-intensity laser light to stimulate healing and reduce pain in various parts of the body. Unlike surgical lasers that produce heat and cut or destroy tissue, cold lasers emit low-energy light that does not generate significant heat.

The process of cold laser therapy involves the application of a handheld device, which emits the laser light, directly onto the skin in the area of treatment. The light penetrates the skin and interacts with the cells in the body, promoting various biological effects at a cellular level.

One of the main effects of cold laser therapy is the stimulation of cellular metabolism, which enhances the production of adenosine triphosphate (ATP), the energy source for cells. This increased energy can promote the healing process, as it helps cells repair and regenerate more efficiently.

Additionally, cold laser therapy has been found to improve blood circulation in the treated area. This enhanced blood flow can bring more oxygen and nutrients to the cells, while removing waste products and toxins, which aids in the healing process.

Cold laser therapy has shown effectiveness in reducing pain and inflammation. The laser light can stimulate the release of endorphins, which are natural pain-relieving chemicals in the body. It can also help reduce swelling and inflammation by suppressing inflammatory mediators.

The therapy is commonly used to treat various musculoskeletal conditions, such as joint pain, arthritis, sprains, and strains. It is also utilized for wound healing, nerve regeneration, and promoting tissue repair.

Cold laser therapy is generally considered safe and painless, without side effects. The treatment sessions are relatively short, typically ranging from a few minutes to half an hour, depending on the condition being treated.

The effectiveness of cold laser therapy can vary depending on the condition being treated and individual client factors.

My cold laser is a “Tendlite 204”. Don’t worry, I have safety glasses for both of us. Afterword, I apply an essential oil topically, chosen for its therapeutic value.

What is smell training?

Smell training, also known as olfactory training or scent therapy, is a technique used to help individuals recover or improve their sense of smell. It involves systematic and repetitive exposure to various aromas to stimulate and retrain the olfactory system.

Smell training aims to re-establish neural connections and promote the recovery of olfactory function by repeatedly exposing individuals to specific smells. The training typically involves: selecting aromas, regular smell practice for a certain duration, and conscious focus. The underlying principle of smell training is neuroplasticity, which refers to the brain's ability to reorganize and form new connections in response to sensory input and learning. By repeatedly stimulating the olfactory system, it is thought that new and connections can be established and damaged or weakened connections can be strengthened.

If you would like to book smell training with me, you must answer the questions to describe your smell loss AND sign up for a brief instruction and Q&A appointment.
